Curriculum and Learning
At Nuqtah Primary School, we offer a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that supports academic excellence while nurturing personal development and strong values. Our teaching is carefully planned to ensure progression and high standards across all subjects.
Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive, and it is carefully sequenced to ensure that all pupils develop strong knowledge, skills and understanding.
Phonics and Literacy
We use Read Write Inc. (RWI) as our phonics programme to provide children with a secure foundation in early reading and writing. RWI is delivered through daily, systematic phonics lessons that develop decoding, fluency, comprehension and confidence in reading.
As children become fluent readers, the Ready Steady Write is used to further develop literacy skills, supporting pupils to write creatively and accurately for a range of purposes and audiences. Oracy and vocabulary development are embedded throughout our literacy teaching to strengthen communication skills.
Maths
Our mathematics curriculum follows White Rose Maths, adopting a mastery-based approach that ensures pupils develop a deep and secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Lessons are carefully structured to build fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, with opportunities for pupils to explain their thinking, make connections, and apply their learning in different contexts. Support and challenge are built into lessons to meet the needs of all learners.
Science
At Nuqtah, science learning nurtures children’s natural curiosity and helps them make sense of the world around them. We use the Kapow Primary Science curriculum, which is carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively while developing key scientific skills such as observing, questioning, predicting, investigating and evaluating. Lessons are practical, engaging and inclusive, giving pupils regular opportunities to explore, investigate and use scientific vocabulary with confidence. Knowledge and skills are revisited and built upon over time, enabling children to think and work like scientists and preparing them well for the next stage of their learning.
Foundation Subjects
We use Kapow to deliver a broad curriculum across the foundation subjects. Kapow provides a sequenced and knowledge rich curriculum that builds skills progressively over time. Learning is engaging and meaningful, enabling pupils to deepen their understanding, make links across subjects, and develop curiosity about the world around them.
Assessments
Pupils’ progress is carefully monitored through termly assessments, which inform teaching, help identify next steps, and ensure timely support and challenge. Ongoing assessment is also used within lessons to adapt teaching and meet individual needs.
Our curriculum is underpinned by high expectations, inclusive practice, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement. We aim to ensure that every child, regardless of background or starting point, receives a high-quality education that enables them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
